Frequently asked questions
How does Reflexology work?
Reflexology is a natural and holistic form of complementary therapy that treats the person as a ‘whole’, incorporating the body, mind and spirit to restore internal balance. Through non-invasive stimulation of the circulatory and nervous systems vital energy ‘Chi’ moves from the feet through the body through specific pathways called meridians, clearing congestions, releasing tension, waking up the organs, stimulating healing from within and facilitating a deep state of relaxation, calming the body, reducing pain, restoring harmony, physical, emotional and spiritual balance in the individual.
What can the patient expect to experience during a reflexology session?
Generally, the treatment is a pleasant and relaxing which may cause the patient to doze off, however, at times the patient can expect the reflexes to be sensitive, sore or painful. In some instances, patients may also feel sensations in corresponding reflexes and organs.
What are the benefits of reflexology?

Why does the reflex hurt?
Depending on the severity and degreeof imbalance and congestions from past injuries or recovering organs certain reflexes can be highly
sensitive as energy moves from the therapist’s pressure onto reflexes, eliminating the body of toxins and working towards homeostasis. Sensitivity subsides as the healing process continues.
How many treatments are needed?
The number and frequency of treatments is dependent on the individual needs of the patient, seriousness of the condition, for how long it was present and the rate at which the patient responds to the treatment. The treatment recommendation would be a course of six
to eight treatments initially once a week and a maintenance or preventative treatment session once in every month or every six weeks.
How long does each treatment session last?
Each treatment lasts between 60 to 90mins depending on the treatment modality required to treat the patient’s specific conditions.
What to expect after a reflexology treatment?

Patient’s reactions may vary during the ‘healing crisis’ from, increased thirst, increased urination, mild fuzzy headache, nausea, runny nose, bowel elimination, increased perspiration and sometimes a temporary worsening of previous illness or symptoms to feeling calm, mentally alert, relaxed, improved sleep patterns, energized and rejuvenated. Drink plenty of fluids, ideally tepid water and herbal teas. Rest-even nap if you feel like it. Keep your feet and body warm.
