Meridian Therapy and Body Reflexology
Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that en
The meridian system is made up of 12 main meridians/energy pathways that pass through the top layer of the skin and fascia allowing for Chi vital energy to flow through and connect to vital organs. 10 of these 12 meridians are associated with specific organs: the heart, lung, stomach, kidney, large intestine, liver, bladder, gallbladder and spleen/pancreas, while one of the other two remaining meridians the pericardium meridian is linked to emotional and spiritual well-being, and the triple burner (endocrine) meridian, controls.
How can Meridian Therapy help you?
A trained and skilled therapist will be able to detect stagnant energy or congestions on the meridian pathways on a patient through external physical manifestations, (toenail or finger nail discoloration, eczema, plantar warts, corns & calluses, ingrown & thickened toenails, dandruff, thinning of hair etc) or symptoms like sinuses, heartburn, tinnitus, vertigo, headaches etc). The therapist will apply acupressure to determine areas of congestions in the meridian pathways and through stimulation of these meridian points the natural flow of energy is kick started and the process of balancing and restoration of Chi in the body begins.
Chi is the energy that provides your body with life…
Inherited Chi (energy you are born with) and Gong Chi (Your daily energy stock derived from the foods you eat and the air you breathe) Once you deplete your Gong Chi, your body begins to pull energy from the inherited Chi stock to make up for lost Chi leaving your body with muscle and joint stiffness, arthritis greying hair and other tell-tale signs of aging.
The meridians are also the way that your muscles get their energy as each meridian organ connects to a muscle group.
The meridian system is also closely linked to the concept of yin and yang which defines the direction in which energy flows up and down the trunk, legs, arms and head to maintain balance. The yin and yang duality in the body are represented
by the “yin” organs which are the solid organs (heart, liver, spleen and lungs) and “yang” organs that are hallow (stomach, bladder, gallbladder, large intestine and small intestine).
Any internal imbalances in these organs will manifest as external symptoms. The interaction between the yin & yang energies are further represented by five elements of nature (wood, fire, earth, metal and water). Which have a
direct influence on a person’s personality, emotions, spiritual needs and predisposition to physical weaknesses. The yin and yang cycles operate simultaneously in a feedback system to bring about and maintain balance in nature and
throughout the human body, any imbalance between the elements and the cycles will result in an imbalance in the flow of Chi, which will result in the manifestation of disease.
External Symptoms of yin & yang Imbalances inside the body or between the body & its environment
(Yang symptoms are fever, sweating, constipation, chronic thirst, dry lips and mouth, dark urine, heavy breathing rapid pulse and irritability)
(Yin symptoms are loose bowels, lack of thirst, shallow breathing, slow pulse, lethargy, chills, cold hands and feet -poor circulation)
